Har ki Dun: A trek to the Himalayas!!

Quaint hamlets like Osla, Taluka, Seema, will be passed by you on the trek. Har ki Dun is a long trek that will test your endurance level and strength. According to mythology,  Mahabharta characters have a great influence on the valley. It is believed that Yudhishtr one of the Kaurava went heaven through Swargarohini Parvat with a dog. The Pandavas and Kauravas lived for several years in the valley. Village Osla has a Duryodhana temple which is still a mystery whether it is dedicated to Lord Shiva or Duryodhana. A lot of ancient stories are associated with the valley that’s why it is called Valley of Gods. Take out some from the trekking trip and explore the villages and listen to the old stories by the villagers and get a chance to know about the incredibility of India.

The best time to visit Har ki Dun is round the year adventure. In the summer season, you will see the blossoms, sparkling streams, wild flora & fauna, and pleasant weather. In the winter season, from October to March, the valley gets cover in snow and you will get a totally different and amazing picture of the valley with snow-covered trails, captivating views of the Himalayan peaks and frozen streams.

It is advised to avoid trekking in the monsoon season. The valley receives heavy rainfall and landslides are very common in the area. The trail gets muddy, slippery, and dangerous to hike on.

How to reach?

The trek starts from Sankri village which is very near to Dehradun. Dehradun is well-connected to all the major cities.

By Air: Take a direct flight from Delhi to Jolly Grant Airport and reach Dehradun. Take a bus or taxi and reach Sankri which is 230km from Dehradun.

By Bus: There are a lot of buses available from Delhi to Dehradun. You can also take buses from major cities and towns of Uttarakhand which are well-connected to Sankri village.

By Train: The nearest railhead is the Dehradun railway station which is 215km from Sankri. Then take a bus or taxi to reach Sankri.
